Bern University of Applied Sciences was in search for equipment  to explore production processes of high end optical components

Our solution

Bern University of Applied Sciences acquired a GPX-3400 filament fusion and glass processing station, a process platform for the fabrication of splicers, tapers, couplers and combiners based on Vytran’s proprietary graphite filament technology. AMS Technologies took over the installation on site and provided technical trainings.

The equipment offers a high degree of freedom enabling research in various directions where specialty splices and related fused components are needed. The open architecture allows for hands on experience of manufacturing high end optical components which makes it well suited for education of light guiding properties in fibre optics.  



Our recommended system GPX-3400 utilize True Core Imaging™ for accurate inner-core alignment and splice loss calculation. End-View Imaging™ allows automated alignment of polarization maintaining (PM) fibers, fibers with non-circular cladding or micro-structured cores, and dissimilar fibers. The systems’ two fiber holding blocks can move along the fiber axis up to 180 mm, enabling exceptional fiber processing such as long tapers, thermal core expansion, mode fields adapting. Advanced software merges vision-based alignment, an intuitive GUI, and application database capabilities to enable fast and flexible process development.
