Description

This newly designed Oclaro (formerly Avanex) lithium niobate modulator with integrated variable optical attenuator is built with the standardized "F10"-type small form factor package for 4"MSA transponders. The integrated VOA enables highly flexible DWDM system operation, by pre-emphasizing the optical power level of each channel in amplified systems. The VOA is made from a specially designed Mach-Zehnder interferometer providing a constantly high modulator extinction ratio over the complete attenuation range of more than 15 dB. The large electro-optic bandwidth allows for SFEC overhead. Besides the chirp free model, pre-chirped versions for 1700 ps/nm and 2000 ps/nm dispersion tolerance are available (F1700-A; F2000-A). Other custom chirp designs can be provided on request to accomplish specific customer transmission requirements.
